Digital Markets & ICT
Our team has developed significant expertise in the economics of competition and regulation in telecommunications and media markets. We have worked on a wide range of issues in the sector including mergers and acquisitions, abuse of dominance complaints, regulatory issues such as spectrum assignment and call termination and analysis of key policy proposals.
Our economists have been involved in major telecoms and media mergers including the Vodacom/Neotel merger (telecommunications), the Telkom/BCX merger (telecommunications), the Media24/Natal Witness merger (newspapers), the Primedia/NAIL merger (radio) and the Naspers/M-Net/Supersport merger (pay television). We have prepared submissions for ICASA and the Department of Communications and engaged in research on a range of topics including call termination, broadband, spectrum and numbering. We have also done work on television for the National Association of Broadcasters. Team members have worked on complaints of abuse of dominance in telecommunications and media.
